The mission of the Pipestone County Historical Society and Museum (founded in 1880 as The Old Settlers Historical Society) is to foster an awareness of our county's history and its connection with Minnesota, regional, and national history. This mission reflects our belief that the study of the past enriches perspective on the present and provides guidance for the future. To carry out this mission, and to protect the resources which foster historic awareness, the Society collects, preserves, and exhibits artifacts which educate visitors about our past in the Pipestone County Museum. The Museum manages an archives and research library providing unique resources for the study of local history and genealogy. The Society produces publications related to our activities and local history subjects. Museum staff furnishes tours and history-related programs to schools, community groups, institutions and the general public. We also cooperate with other organizations in protecting and preserving buildings and monuments which reflect our unique community heritage.

We are honored to be the Voice of Business and a Community Champion for nearly 100 Years. We also house the Pipestone Convention and Visitors Bureau Visitors Center to provide information to tourists. The CVB is also responsible for general promotion of Pipestone and all of the things that make this community a great place to shop stay dine and play.
