DESIGNxRI is a nonprofit economic development organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening Rhode Island's design community. Founded in 2013, the organization works to create opportunities for local designers and design businesses to connect, learn, and advance in their careers.
Purpose and Programs
The primary goal of DESIGNxRI is to foster a vibrant and inclusive design ecosystem in Rhode Island. It achieves this through various programs and events aimed at providing training, funding, and networking opportunities to emerging and established designers.

Design Catalyst Program: This program offers comprehensive business and design skills training over five months. It helps participants develop strategic perspectives to grow their businesses and connect with a supportive network of peers and mentors.

DxRI Launch Program: A seven-week program designed to help individuals launch creative businesses. It includes five core business classes and two one-on-one mentoring sessions, focusing on essential aspects such as visioning, pricing, and marketing. This program is specifically funded for residents of the City of Providence who meet certain eligibility criteria, including income requirements and residence.
Impact and Community Engagement
Since its inception, DESIGNxRI has impacted over 100 small creative businesses in Rhode Island, contributing significantly to the state's creative economy. The organization's alumni directory showcases a diverse range of design specialties, from metalworking to apparel design, highlighting the breadth of talent and innovation supported by the organization.
Funding and Partnerships
DESIGNxRI collaborates with various partners and receives funding from entities such as the U.S. Small Business Administration and the City of Providence. These partnerships enable the organization to provide grant-funded programs like the DxRI Launch, supporting low-to-moderate income individuals in starting new creative ventures.

The Design Catalyst Program is back with expanded eligibility and accessibility. The 2025-2026 Design Catalyst Program will run from October 2025 through March 2026 and offer business education, professional development training, mentorship, financial coaching, and peer-to-peer networking. And, for the first time ever, the 2025-2026 Program will have evening classes designed to better accommodate working professionals and no income limits for eligibility.
