Tva Retirees Association
We are an organization of retirees from the Tennessee Valley Authority and keep our members up to date on issues concerning their retirement and keep them up to date on what is currently going on in the company.
The TVA Retirees Association (TVARA) is a nonprofit organization representing the interests of retirees from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Established in 1967, the association serves as the official body for all TVA retirees and their beneficiaries, aiming to advocate on their behalf and keep them informed about TVA developments that affect their interests[2][3].
History and Purpose
TVARA was organized to support the varied interests of TVA retirees and to maintain a connection between retirees and the TVA agency. Although independent from both TVA and the TVA Retirement System (TVARS), TVARA maintains a close working relationship with these entities to ensure retirees’ benefits and concerns are effectively represented[1][3][5].
Organization and Governance
TVARA operates under bylaws that define its organizational structure and functions. It is managed by a Board of Directors comprising valley-wide officers—including a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the immediate past President—and the presidents of its 19 local chapters across the Tennessee Valley. The chapters meet quarterly to provide retirees opportunities for networking and information sharing[2][3].
Membership
Membership in TVARA is open to all TVA retirees and their beneficiaries. The association charges annual dues, which as of recent records stand at $15. Members benefit from access to retiree news, updates on benefits, and opportunities to participate in social events and advocacy efforts[2][3].
Relationship to TVA and Retirement System
TVARA is distinct from the TVA Retirement System (TVARS), which is a defined benefit plan established in 1939 that manages pensions and 401(k) plans for TVA employees. While TVARS is a separate legal entity administered by its own board, TVARA functions as an independent voice advocating for retirees and coordinating closely with TVA management and TVARS to protect and promote retiree interests[3][5].
Activities and Services
TVARA provides retirees with resources related to pension benefits, health care options, and other retiree services. It publishes newsletters and organizes meetings and events to keep members informed and engaged. The association also fosters camaraderie among retirees by sharing stories of travel and other post-retirement activities[2][4].
Chapters
The association includes 19 local chapters spread throughout the Tennessee Valley region. These chapters facilitate regular meetings, offering retirees opportunities to stay connected with peers and remain active in retirement life[2].
This summary is based on publicly available information and reflects the role of the TVA Retirees Association as an advocate and community for TVA retirees.
