To gather, celebrate, present, and preserve the history and cultures of sheepherding in Idaho and the West. The Cultural Heritage Center and Trailing of the Sheep Festival were created in 1996 in response to the rapid loss of farms and ranches and rapid growth in Idaho and the west. It is with a sense of urgency that we preserve the stories and our rich history, heritage and culture as economic losses continue to force families off the land. The Festival has expanded greatly from its humble beginnings, yet the goals and objectives of the Festival remain the same—preserving the stories and history of sheep ranchers and herders, celebrating the rich cultures of the past and present and entertaining and educating children and adults about the stories that have preceeded them.
