Film Forum, Inc.

Film Forum

Film Forum is NYC’s leading movie house for independent premieres and repertory programming. Film Forum is a non-profit cinema since 1970. Film Forum began in 1970 as an alternative space for independent films, with 50 folding chairs, one 16mm projector and a $19K annual budget. Today, Film Forum is a 4-screen cinema, with up to 200,000 annual admissions, nearly 500 seats, 59 employees, 6,000 members, and an annual operating budget of approx. $6.8 million. We present films that engage issues of cultural, political, and social significance. Programmers Mike Maggiore, Bruce Goldstein, and Sonya Chung attend film festivals and search archives to find the best new independent and classic films. Film Forum presents 2 programs: 1) New York City theatrical premieres of American and foreign independent films. 2) Repertory program that includes foreign and American classics, genre works, and retrospectives of master directors.
