Overview
Oakwood University is a private, historically black Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher education. It is the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
History
Oakwood University was founded in 1896 as the Oakwood Industrial School, with the mission of providing vocational education and spiritual direction to African-American students. Over the years, it evolved into Oakwood Manual Training School, Oakwood Junior College, and finally Oakwood College, before adopting its current name in 2008.

The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through five schools:

Oakwood University provides a biblically-based education focused on transforming students for service to God and humanity.
