BISM offers comprehensive education, rehabilitation and training programs along with diverse employment opportunities for blind people in the Greater Baltimore area. BISM was founded in 1908 by the Maryland General Assembly, and provides diverse employment opportunities and non-visual rehabilitation and training programs for blind and low-vision people of all ages. BISM works tirelessly to change the staggering statistic that nearly 70% of the blind population in the United States is unemployed. BISM currently employs 480 associates (employees) in 10 facilities located in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Ft. Knox, Kentucky and Raleigh, North Carolina.
