Today, we join the Orlando community in remembering the life of The Honorable Mable Butler. As the first Black woman elected to the Orlando City Council and the first Black person to serve on the Orange County Board of County Commissioners, Commissioner Butler was a true trailblazer. She was instrumental in helping bring the Florida Classic from Tampa to Orlando, a move that forever shaped the history of this iconic rivalry and strengthened its impact on our community.
