Hopewell Music Cooperative North

Overview

Hopewell Music Cooperative North is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing accessible and inclusive music education in North Minneapolis. Established in 2012 by two local music teachers, Hopewell aims to address the decline in music education opportunities in the area.

Mission and Programs

Hopewell's mission is to improve access to music education through affordable, inclusive, and engaging programs. The organization offers lessons on various instruments, multigenerational ensembles, and community choirs, fostering a sense of community and artistic expression among its participants. Hopewell's programs are designed to be accessible to all, regardless of age, background, ability, or financial circumstances, with a sliding scale tuition system to accommodate those in need.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hopewell adapted its programs by introducing online lessons and classes alongside in-person activities. This flexibility allowed the organization to continue providing educational services while ensuring the safety of students and staff.

Core Values

Hopewell Music Cooperative North is guided by several core values:

Impact and Growth

Since its inception, Hopewell Music Cooperative North has grown significantly. By the end of 2012, 50 students were enrolled, with the ensemble program starting in 2013. By 2019, over 700 students and community members were involved in its programs, which include 160 weekly private lessons, six ensembles, in-school programming, and numerous public performances.

Strategic Direction

In recent years, Hopewell has developed a strategic plan to ensure sustainable growth and further its mission. This plan includes ongoing strategic planning and board development with the support of external partners, allowing the organization to adapt and thrive in challenging environments.
