At municipal shelters, volunteers are the heartbeat of hope. They show up day after day, not for praise or pay, but for the love of the animals. The dogs at Long Beach Animal Care Services are lucky to have a dedicated team of humans who go above and beyond to provide enrichment; but with limited funding available, these compassionate volunteers often have to reach into their own pockets to keep things going. Meet our newest shelter dog heartbreak: Cocobean #A740889. She’s a pocket pittie, just 37 lbs, who has known nothing but overbreeding and neglect. Estimated to be 6-8 years old, she came to @lbanimalcare where she currently resides emaciated, with mammary masses, skin and ear issues, worn-down teeth, and a heart that still makes her tail wag at every gentle touch. Due to her medical needs, she is listed as “urgent” at the shelter. Cocobean is ready for a new chapter, but we can’t help her write it without an available foster home. Fostering is free. We cover all expenses: surgery, dental care, food (thanks to the sponsorship we have with @justfoodfordogs ), meds, training support, and the list goes on.
