Turtle tracking is in full swing as biology students are returning to the fields this summer to study ornate box turtles and develop research projects related to their behaviors, habitats and overall survival in Kansas and Nebraska. When turtles are found, measurements are taken and they are equipped with a locating device. Students then track their movement and growth throughout the year. They recently found their 500th turtle in the program's history! Washburn's turtle trackers are supported every year with generous gifts, especially on Day of Giving. The funds help purchase equipment and send students to a research site in Nebraska for extended periods.
