This year’s Met Gala theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, celebrated Black elegance through tailored fashion. One accessory was prevalent: the cane. From the Met steps to Harlem nightclubs of the 1930s, canes have carried meanings beyond mobility. For many, especially in the Black Dandy tradition, the cane is a powerful symbol of resistance, autonomy, and style. Canes—like other mobility devices—serve not just a medical purpose, but also act as an intentional expression of identity and personal style. (fb)
