Baby Barred Owl Renested We have some good news to share. About a week ago, this little Barred Owl was recently admitted into our care after having fallen out of his nest by Gunners Lake in Germantown, MD. When learning to fly, they typically hop and flap from branch to branch in the trees, and climb up the trunks, but they often “miss” and wind up on the ground. They can climb back up, but they don’t if it’s light outside. After a close examination and some much needed rest and rehabilitation, we were thankfully able to return him to his nest shortly after receiving him. We strive for quick turnarounds, especially with babies because we want to make sure the parents get their young back quickly to keep raising them and also to limit imprinting likelihood with us, so this was certainly a story we love to see. If you come across a baby raptor that seems to have fallen from their nest, please give us a call immediately so we can assess its status and provide care if needed as quickly as possible. (fb)
