The first Grand Slam in a Major League Baseball game happened on a baseball field next to present day Route 20 on September 10, 1881 in East Albany (now Rensselaer, NY) Roger Connor was up in the bottom of the 9th inning for the Troy Trojans (an early National League team) against the Worcester Brown Stockings in what was a lack lackluster MLB game. The bases were loaded and Worcester was ahead 7-3. One player made base on 4 balls, driving in one player. When Connor came to bat, he hit a home run! Making the score 8-7 and was also considered the first walk off game in MLB history! The story was known for over 100 years, but a misunderstanding of where the ballpark was located (placing it across the river in Albany) was uncovered in 2019 and it now commemorated by a plaque at the Rensselaer River Arts Park (beneath and adjacent to the Dunn Memorial Bridge) #baseball #grandslam #mlb Photo uses an AI image with Connor in the bottom right.
