Consortium on Competitiveness and Cooperation Inc
The Consortium on Competitiveness and Cooperation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing research and education in the fields of competitiveness, cooperation, organizational theory, economic theory, technology management, firm strategy, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
History
The Consortium on Competitiveness and Cooperation (CCC) was originally founded in 1986 by Peter Jones and David Teece at the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Initially, the CCC aimed to promote research on the competitive performance of the United States in the global economy, supported by grants from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and other organizations. It engaged in various activities such as sponsoring workshops, developing curricula, and teaching programs focused on technological innovation, strategic management, and public policy[2][4].
CCC Doctoral Conference
In 1994, the CCC initiated its annual Doctoral Conference, which was organized by Steven Klepper and Richard Nelson and held at Carnegie Mellon University. This conference focuses on assisting doctoral students in improving their dissertation research related to organization and economic theory, technology management and firm strategy, entrepreneurship, and the co-evolution of industrial and organizational structures with innovation. The conference emphasizes mentoring by distinguished scholars, providing constructive feedback and dialogue. It includes two main events: Community Day and the Doctoral Consortium. Community Day honors a CCC researcher's contributions through panel discussions, while the Doctoral Consortium involves about 30 students presenting their dissertations and receiving feedback from faculty experts and the broader CCC community[1][3][4].
Development and Expansion
Over time, the CCC has expanded both within and outside North America. The conference has been hosted by various institutions, including the University of Toronto and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. In 2013, the Kauffman Foundation hosted the 20th anniversary conference in Kansas City, Missouri. The organization was formally incorporated as a nonprofit entity in the same year to better support its mission[2].
Leadership and Activities
The CCC is led by a board of directors that includes prominent scholars in the field. It continues to foster a community of researchers and doctoral students through its annual conferences and activities, promoting interdisciplinary research and collaboration[2]. The organization's program includes Faculty Day, which precedes the doctoral consortium, featuring discussions on emerging research directions[2].
