Housing First Initiative: Since 1961 the AHDC has provided and maintained decent, safe, and sanitary housing, that started with 16 units built in our first development project in Ashland, AL. Today we manage 254 apartment units in 6 communities; 217 units for low income residents and their families and 37 units designed for the elderly and disabled. Due to cuts in the federal funding, 56% of our annual budget comes from federal grants, the balance from rents and donations. Family Resource Center: A social service model available to communities and families, resource-friendly, effective in helping families access and utilize social services. Homeownership: AHDC is developing a Homeownership Program to build affordable homes for the low/moderate income families and individuals.
