I struggled to breastfeed my older daughter b/c of recurrent mastitis and had to stop at 6 weeks. We ended up doing formula for the rest of her first year, and I felt good about that decision after reading a lot of peer-reviewed research about breastfeeding vs. formula. The main finding that I came away with is that breastfeeding can be life-saving in places without access to clean water and also for preemies in the NICU because they are at risk for necrotizing enterocolitis. When breastfeeding came easy with my younger daughter and I was producing way more milk than I needed, I knew that I wanted to donate it to a milk bank that was just for preemies in the NICU and MMBAL made it so easy for me to donate because there is a collection point right by my house.
