National Association of African Americans in Human Resources

The National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a unique global forum for career development, networking, and professional enhancement for Black and African American human resources professionals.

Mission and Vision

NAAAHR's mission is to inspire and foster performance excellence and career achievement for African American HR professionals. The organization aims to provide an inviting forum for networking and professional development, contributing to the professional skills and experience of members to enhance career and economic development in the African American community. It also supports corporate, association, non-profit, and government employers in recruiting, developing, and retaining minority employees for leadership positions.

The vision of NAAAHR is to be the "first stop" for networking, support, professional development, and thought leadership on HR issues affecting African Americans, with the goal of enhancing thought leadership in the broader HR community on topics of particular interest to the African American community.

History

NAAAHR was officially chartered in September 1998, co-sponsored by the Baltimore Black Human Resources Network and the Washington DC Black Human Resources Network. It was formed by a coalition of seventeen local organizations of African American HR professionals and consultants from across the country.

Structure and Membership

The association operates over 25 chapters and interest groups nationally, with a social media community comprising over 16,700 HR professionals. Membership is open to any HR professional, line manager, consultant, or student studying HR and related disciplines. Many members are also active in other professional organizations but find value in NAAAHR's unique focus on African American HR professionals.

Activities and Partnerships

NAAAHR focuses on providing networking opportunities, career development, educational resources, mentorship, and coaching to its members. It has strengthened partnerships with organizations like the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), enhancing its members' career opportunities and professional certification support.

Impact and Growth

Through its activities and partnerships, NAAAHR continues to promote diversity, inclusion, and career advancement for African Americans in HR, contributing to the strategic direction of organizations and fostering leadership development in the HR field.
