Bring home a little part of Mary’s Garden and plant a bit of history! For two days only, April 11 & 12, Garden Manager Ian Bugay and our fantastic volunteers have carefully selected and repotted a range of plants from Mary’s Garden including Native Columbine, Crested Iris and Byzantine Gladiola. Proceeds from the Plant Sale help to fund the care of our gardens. ​In conjunction with the Plant Sale, we are also hosting a special sale to help us clean out Mary’s attic (with a great selection of clearance items from our Museum Store). Washington Heritage Museums announces that the invasive bamboo growing on the grounds of the Mary Washington Monument will be removed. Bamboo is a non-native species that threatens natives and challenges the growth of any other species. This large swath of bamboo has already encroached on several large trees on the hillside and threatens others. It is the organization's goal to preserve the site of the Mary Washington monument with careful stewardship of historic and natural resources. Site work will begin in the coming year to protect the Meditation Rock and create walkways that make the site accessible to all. (fb)
