Description

Global Education Network

The Global Education Network (GEN) is a nonprofit organization established in 2011 with the mission to advance global development through education. It focuses primarily on improving educational access and quality in developing regions, particularly in communities afflicted by poverty and lack of basic resources.[1][2]

History and Structure

GEN was registered as an incorporated nonprofit under the Corporate Affairs Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, holding registration number RC: 1310843. It functions as a global society of educationists and scholars with a worldwide reputation. The organization has over three hundred members from educational institutions across various countries.[1][3]

The governance of GEN includes a president, who must be an outstanding scholar, preferably a professor, appointed through an internal application and interview process conducted by a panel of interviewers. The president serves a term of two years, renewable once consecutively. The Board of Directors appoints executive members to collaborate with the president to ensure adherence to strategic goals and organizational rules.[3]

Funding for GEN's activities primarily comes from conference registrations and contributions by members, including financial support from the founder. The organization has yet to secure formal funding from government or large institutions. It supports academic research and journals, serving as a mentorship platform for educators through research and conferences.[3]

Activities and Programs

GEN organizes annual international conferences that have been hosted in various countries including Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Republic of Benin, Sierra Leone, Togo, South Africa, Botswana, and more recently in Liverpool, United Kingdom.[1]

The organization is dedicated to serving schools, students, and communities worldwide through several key programs:

  • Scholarships: Sponsoring students from underprivileged communities to continue their education. For example, GEN annually sponsors a student from The Light School to attend secondary school in Uriri, Kenya.[2][4]

  • School Construction: GEN has been involved in building and expanding schools in underserved rural areas, notably in Ghana. Projects include the Bright Future Orphanage School in Somanya and the Nana Bediako Memorial School in Mpraeso, enhancing access to quality primary education.[4]

  • School Support and Advocacy: GEN advocates for the needs of the schools it supports, facilitating partnerships with other organizations and raising awareness through media such as documentaries. These efforts help generate funding and support for their projects.[4]

GEN collaborates with universities and training consultancies such as Soft Contents UK to further its mission.[1]

Vision

GEN holds the belief that education is a fundamental solution to global challenges such as poverty, limited healthcare, and gender inequality. The organization aims to serve educational needs as a means to address these broader global issues.[2]

This nonprofit embodies a commitment to global educational development through practical initiatives and international collaboration, working to create sustainable opportunities for students and educators in disadvantaged communities.[1][2][3][4]
