Description

Creating Positive Relationships Incorporated

Creating Positive Relationships Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on educating young people and promoting healthy relationships through abstinence-centered education.

Mission and Values

The organization aims to build character and empower individuals to develop healthy relationships that benefit their communities and society. Its core values include service, respect, openness, and relevance. These values guide CPR in serving young people, parents, and communities by promoting respectful dialogue and providing medically accurate information about relationships and sexual health.

History

CPR was founded in 1990 by Gayle Bucher. Bucher initially worked with teenagers in crisis, which led to her conviction that prevention is preferable to intervention. In 1992, CPR was officially recognized as a tax-exempt organization. The organization expanded its programs over the years, adding a middle school program called "Building Healthy Futures" in 1990, and a high school program titled "Choosing Healthy Lives" in 1996. In 1993, CPR implemented its Associate program, which licenses the CPR curriculum to organizations globally and trains personnel to use it.

Programs

CPR offers grade-level specific programs starting from 5th grade to high school. These programs aim to educate students about relationships, sexual behavior, and healthy decision-making by addressing emotional, physical, social, and mental aspects. The curriculum is updated annually to reflect current trends and includes topics such as social networking, sextortion, bullying, and mental health. CPR also provides adapted programs for students with special needs.

Impact and Partnerships

CPR serves students in various educational settings, including public, private, Christian, and homeschools, as well as shelters and churches. The organization works with numerous Associate organizations in the United States and internationally, impacting thousands of students globally each year. Parent involvement is encouraged through informational meetings and webinars, ensuring parents are informed about the curriculum content and can engage in ongoing discussions with their children.

Leadership

The organization is led by Machelle Montgomery as the Executive Director, supported by Bethany Jones as Program Director and Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist. Other key staff members include Cindy Banks as Communications Administrator and Doris Lloyd as Executive Assistant and Evaluation Specialist.
