MMEP collaborates with the private sector, communities of color, and 12 institutions including public and private elementary and secondary schools and postsecondary systems in order to provide resources and programs for students of color. MMEP, founded in 1987, grew out of a need for creating a network of support for students of color that would ensure better recruitment and retention of diverse populations in higher educational institutions. MMEP advocates on behalf of communities of color and aims to reduce the school drop out rate of diverse populations, to educate institutions about diverse cultures, and prepare students of color for Minnesota's workforce.

MMEP Breaking Barriers in Education A Comprehensive Look at the Minnesota Minority Education Partnership MMEP Education has always been the foundation of opportunity yet for many students of color in Minnesota systemic barriers prevent them from fully accessing the benefits of a quality education. The Minnesota Minority Education Partnership MMEP exists to break down those barriers. Established in 1987 MMEP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by advocating for educational equity promoting diversity in educational leadership and creating systems that support students of color throughout their academic journey. The Origin and Mission of MMEP MMEP was founded as a response to the persistent educational disparities faced by students of color in Minnesota.
