The organization aims to amplify community voices and lived experiences to foster a deeper understanding of the past and shape a more inclusive future.
Mission and Values
The mission of Vanport Mosaic is to amplify, honor, and preserve the silenced histories surrounding its community. It operates under several core values:

It partners with numerous organizations such as the Oregon Historical Society, Oregon Humanities, and Portland State University to achieve its objectives. The organization also hosts festivals and exhibitions to bring together storytellers, artists, educators, and community members.

Events and Initiatives
One of its notable initiatives is "Coming Home," a series of events celebrating the cultural legacy of Old Town in Portland, one of the city's oldest neighborhoods. This initiative aims to honor the resilience of communities that have faced historic racism and cultural erasure. The events include exhibits, community art projects, and roundtable discussions to reimagine a vibrant future for Old Town.

Repost from @darrelljazz • I’ve heard it said that the arts allow us to thrive when it is all we can do to survive. As practitioners and culture workers we shine a light on the impossible to illuminate the possibilities, and in so doing, open a path to creating the kind of world where that thriving flourishes. To quote arts educator Karl Paulnack, “If there is a future of peace for humankind, if there is to be an understanding of how these invisible, internal things should fit together, I expect it will come from the artists, because that’s what we do.” Pushing those in leadership to do right by our work and our communities is also what we do. I’m Oregon, HB 3189 is one bill of many, but it is the only one that supports the necessity of the arts. So for my fellow Oregon arts community, I hope you will join me in standing for it. Post this graphic on your social media. And also, write your state representatives and senators and tell them not to abandon Oregon’s Arts & Culture workers. Advocate for bill HB 3189: Improve Access to State Funding for Arts/Culture Providers, which would increase the grants budget of the Oregon Arts Commission from its current $4 million to $10 million, and provide critical One-Time Funding of $5.5 Million for six Large Arts Organizations, two critical investments in this crisis moment. . . . #artlovers #artcollective #standup #oregonart #savethearts #portlandartist #supportlocalartists #artsmatter (fb)
