Tri-State Warbird Museum

The Tri-State Warbird Museum is a private, nonprofit military aviation museum located in Batavia, Ohio, adjacent to the Clermont County Airport. Founded in 2003, its mission focuses on preserving World War II-era aircraft, educating visitors about America’s role in the conflict, and honoring veterans[1][4].

Overview

The museum’s collection consists of 12 historically significant aircraft, all either operational or undergoing restoration to flightworthy condition[4][5]. Notable examples include a rare airworthy RNZAF P-40M Kittyhawk and an authentic Focke-Wulf Fw 190 F-8[1]. The facility spans 22,000 square feet, featuring two hangars for aircraft display and restoration, a library of aviation-related materials, and exhibits of wartime artifacts[2][4].

History

Established by David O'Maley Sr., the museum opened its initial 12,000 sq/ft hangar and 5,000 sq/ft exhibit space in 2005[1]. By 2011, a 14,000 sq/ft expansion created the "Bomber Hangar," dedicated to restoration projects and educational programming[1][4]. The museum hosts an annual fundraising gala in June and has welcomed over 1.5 million visitors since its inception[1][5].

Mission

As a nonprofit organization, the museum emphasizes:

  • Preservation: Restoring and maintaining historically accurate aircraft[3][5].
  • Education: Highlighting aviation’s role in defending freedom through exhibits and operational aircraft demonstrations[2][3].
  • Honoring Veterans: Recognizing the sacrifices of World War II veterans and service members[1][3].
A replica World War II barracks is displayed to contextualize the era’s military life[4].

The museum publishes the newsletter Taking Flight biannually and aims to expand its collection while enhancing public engagement[4][5].
