All's Well That Ends Well! Last week, we discovered a little orphaned gosling in the rain garden. We found a warm box and some bedding for it, and provided water and thistle for it to eat. Mike Larson took the gosling to the Regner Park fishing pond in West Bend, looking for a gaggle of goslings to place the orphan with. Luckily, he found a family, and both the chicks and their mother accepted the little gosling with open arms. Wouldn’t it be a beautiful world if humans were as accepting of one another as geese? On a different note, that same day, Matt found five baby woodchucks inside the barn. We assumed their den had been flooded due to heavy rains, so their mother brought them to the barn for safety. We managed to wrangle all five babies into a bucket and placed them near where we thought their den was located. However, not long after, the determined mother woodchuck knocked over the bucket and brought the babies back inside the barn. The next day, all the babies were gone. We believe the mother found a more suitable habitat for them to grow and be safe. It’s amazing how animals can instinctively sense when they need to stay close to their mothers! (fb)
