The George Washington Foundation George Washingtons Ferry Farm Historic Kenmore Come home to history at Ferry Farm and Historic Kenmore George Washingtons Ferry Farm is where young Washington spent his formative years and became an extraordinary man. The future general and first president was 6 years old when his family moved to King George County now Stafford County Virginia in 1738. Historic Kenmore is a beautiful Georgianstyle brick mansion built for George Washingtons sister Betty Washington Lewis and her husband Fredericksburg merchant Fielding Lewis reflecting their preRevolutionary War wealth and gentry status.
