This Teacher Tuesday we are introducing you to Stanton’s Middle School Counselor, Ms. Behal! In her third year at Stanton, Ms. Behal shows a creative dedication to her middle schoolers, by staying after school with them each day, to coordinating Career Day, to guiding them through the high school application process. Here’s more about the person who is beloved by her students: 💙 What I love about my job: Working with our students! I wholeheartedly believe we have some of the most creative and talented students in the district. A special shoutout to our middle schoolers: they are funny, resilient, and are going to make such a positive impact in the world. As their counselor, I love being part of the journey by listening to their problems and helping them navigate their life experiences. 😊Favorite Stanton memory: All of the positive, little moments that I experience each day. Laughing with my students at recess and when they stop in my office to say hi, feeling the excitement alongside our 8th graders when they received high school offers, decompressing with my colleagues at the end of a long day. 👂🏼Why I became a school counselor: Growing up, I was described as a listener and a helper. I’ve always been drawn to the field of education, but I thought that I wanted to be a teacher for a long time. After teaching English in Thailand, I realized that I prefer supporting students in a role outside of the classroom. I love working with students individually and in small groups to support their social-emotional wellbeing. ✍️If I wasn’t a counselor, I’d be… I’d like to think I would always find my way to counseling!
