Brandon Valley Youth Softball Association
The Brandon Valley Youth Softball Association (BVYSA) is a nonprofit organization established to promote and develop fastpitch softball among youth in the communities of Brandon and Valley Springs, and surrounding areas. It is designated as a 501(c)(3) organization, which allows it to operate for charitable, educational, or other exempt purposes.
Purpose and Activities
BVYSA's main objective is to provide a structured fastpitch softball league for children between the ages of 3 and 18. The organization offers various programs tailored to different age groups, including Tee Ball for younger children and competitive divisions for older kids. BVYSA partners with the Sioux Empire Fastpitch Softball Association to accommodate players aged 10 and above who do not have a team.
Programs
- Tee Ball (3-5 years): An introductory co-ed program designed for the youngest participants.
- Coach Pitch (5-6 years): Also co-ed, this division builds on basic skills.
- 8U Recreational (7-8 years): A girls-only division focusing on development.
- 10U to 18U Competitive Divisions: These are girls-only competitive teams with focus on skill enhancement and competition.
Governance and Operations
The association is managed by a volunteer board of directors. These volunteers dedicate their time to ensure the smooth operation of the summer softball programs. Monthly meetings are held, which are open to the public for suggestions and feedback. Safety measures, such as heat index checks and background screenings for staff, are implemented to ensure a safe environment for all participants.
Certification and Compliance
To meet safety and coaching standards, the league requires at least one member of the coaching staff to be ACE certified. Additionally, all scorekeepers and volunteers must undergo background checks and complete SafeSport training.
Financial Structure
Fees for participation vary by division, with additional costs for team registrations. The organization aims to provide a balanced experience focusing on both recreational enjoyment and competitive development.
