Our Prep boys had the incredible privilege of meeting real-life adventurer and renowned South African mountaineer Alex Harris. Alex has conquered the "Seven Summits", the highest peaks on each continent, and has led expeditions on both the north and south sides of Mount Everest. He captivated the boys with stories from his recent expedition across Antarctica with his adventure partner, Sibu Vilane. The boys were amazed to learn that Alex and Sibu walked 20km each day across ice and snow for 60 days, covering an astonishing 1200km on foot. To survive the brutal conditions, they wore six layers of thermal pants and carried seven emergency food packs in case they got stuck. The warmest day reached a chilling -40°C, and the coldest dropped to an unimaginable -65°C. Alex ended his talk with a powerful message that left a lasting impression: “It was a journey of endurance, a journey of self-discovery, a journey through the wilderness and a journey that will be remembered in history.” Thank you, Mr Harris, for inspiring our young Johannians to dream big and embrace adventure! #RealLifeAdventurer #TrinityTerm #Beyond125 #LuxVitaCaritas (fb)
