Social media is too fast, too shallow, and too much of an accelerant for disinformation, rage, and despair. We made the choice last year to focus on the work we can do in the real world to prepare ourselves and others to create meaningful, more-light-less-heat conversations with people who’ve been targeted, manipulated, and radicalized by demagogues who have no regard for the truth, their marks, or the consequences for our society. In his inaugural address, Joe Biden said there are “lies told for power and lies told for profit... And each of us has a duty and a responsibility, as citizens, as Americans to defend the truth and defeat the lies.” That’s where we’re focusing our efforts, and we need you to join us. Here’s how you can get involved in our work: 1. Sign up for one of our trainings. They’re online, for now, but we hope to resume holding them in-person when pandemic safety protocols allow. This is a new undertaking with our friend and founder of the Beyond Polarization Project, Charlie Rebich. It’s for individuals and organizations looking to bridge divides and bring people together around shared values and can be tailored to address issues of special importance to your community.
