The Trump administration's proposals to send migrants from the U.S. to Libya, Rwanda, and other third countries "make a mockery of the post-World War II refugee protection framework," CGRS Director Professor Karen Musalo writes for the Los Angeles Times. "There are many of us here in the U.S. who believe that the world’s refugee framework — developed in response to the profound moral failure of turning back the St. Louis — is worth fighting for. We need to take a vocal stand. The clear message must be that those fleeing persecution should never be returned to persecution." Click the link below to read the full op-ed. (fb)

This week CGRS, along with partners at the Boston University School of Law International Human Rights Clinic, the Global Strategic Litigation Council (GSLC), and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, filed a request with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, seeking emergency precautionary measures to halt enforced disappearances from the United States to El Salvador's notorious CECOT mega-prison. “Those disappeared to CECOT have been ripped from their homes and families, imprisoned in deplorable conditions, with no due process and no recourse,” CGRS Staff Attorney Julie Bourdoiseau said today. “These include people who came to the United States seeking refuge from persecution and state repression, only to suffer further abuses at the hands of the Trump and Bukele administrations. Our governments must not be allowed to operate above the law. This illegal scheme must end.” Learn more: https://cgrs.uclawsf.edu/news/groups-seek-emergency-measures-halt-enforced-disappearances-el-salvador (fb)
