His research examines new ways of organizing made possible by the extensive use of information and communications technology. Specific research topics include the development practices of Free/Libre Open Source Software teams and work practices and technology support for citizen science research projects, both with NSF support.

Today in #ComputingHistory in 1958, Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments successfully tested the first integrated circuit – later known as the microchip. Built on a small piece of germanium with a few wires, Kilby’s device demonstrated that resistors and capacitors could exist on the same piece of semiconductor material. This breakthrough solved the growing challenge of building ever-larger systems from discrete parts and laid the foundation for modern microelectronics.
