We are saddened and disappointed by the Department of Justice’s decision to cease funding to National CASA/GAL, and want to acknowledge and appreciate the important role that National CASA/GAL plays in supporting CASA programs nationwide. Their training, standards, and technical assistance help amplify the impact of local program and volunteer advocacy. We support their efforts to appeal the DOJ’s decision and are hopeful for a positive outcome. We encourage you to contact your U.S. Senators and Representative and express your concern with the termination of National CASA/GAL’s funds by the DOJ. While this development with National CASA/GAL is disheartening, the Missouri CASA Association assures its local programs, volunteers, partners, and supporters that this change does not present a direct financial threat to our state network or the children we serve. Many of our local programs have worked to diversify their funding and secured support through state, local, and private sources. While a few local programs in Missouri have received limited, project-specific funding from National CASA/GAL, we are thankful that our essential services will continue statewide without interruption. Missouri CASA stands in support of our local programs and we all remain focused on what matters most: advocating for the best interests of children in foster care and amplifying their voices. We know that our dedicated local program leadership, staff, and volunteers will continue to serve with integrity, resilience, and purpose and appreciate their hard work and service.
