Dutchland Rollers Inc

Overview
Dutchland Rollers Inc, also known as the Dutchland Derby Rollers (DDR), is a nonprofit roller derby league based in South Central Pennsylvania. Established in 2006, the organization is dedicated to promoting athleticism, sportsmanship, and empowerment through the sport of roller derby. The league is skater-managed and operates with a majority of its activities driven by volunteer efforts from its members.

History
The origins of the Dutchland Derby Rollers can be traced back to 2005 when two friends, Betty Clocker and Josie Cuervo, sparked the idea of forming a roller derby league during a casual conversation in a local bar. With no prior skating experience, they began to relearn roller skating and quickly sought to expand their efforts into forming a league. Initial recruitment efforts were conducted at local roller rinks, which led to collaboration with other women interested in starting a roller derby team.

By March 2006, after several months of practice and the establishment of a more structured approach, the group officially adopted the name "Dutchland Rollers." They have since grown from a small group of skaters to a vibrant league with a significant membership base. The organization hosted its first public bout in November 2006 and has continued to engage in competitive interleague bouting, becoming a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

Mission and Values
The mission of the Dutchland Derby Rollers is to foster national and international amateur sports competition while promoting equality and respect for all individuals. The organization emphasizes the values of friendship, dedication, empowerment, and positive role modeling for women in sports. The DDR is committed to community involvement, including outreach and volunteer efforts aimed at giving back to the local community.

Programs and Activities
Dutchland Rollers Inc engages in a variety of activities, including:

  • Competitive roller derby bouts, allowing members to participate in interleague competitions.
  • Community outreach initiatives aimed at promoting health, wellness, and sportsmanship within the local community.
  • Volunteer opportunities for skaters to engage with and support various local causes.

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Dutchland Rollers Inc operates under regulations that govern charitable organizations in the United States, allowing them to accept donations and grants to further support their mission and activities.

The league continues to maintain a strong presence in the roller derby community, working towards developing the skill and athleticism of its members while cultivating an inclusive environment for all participants.
