Roanoke Valley Society for Human Resource Management

The Roanoke Valley Society for Human Resource Management (RVSHRM) is a dual membership affiliate of the National Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). It serves as a local chapter, providing resources and support for human resource professionals in the Roanoke Valley area.

History

The Roanoke Valley SHRM was initially formed in 1953 as the Personnel Association of Roanoke, established by a subcommittee of the Chamber of Commerce. The organization's name changed to Roanoke Valley Society for Human Resource Management in October 1992, reflecting a broader focus on human resource management. In 2021, RVSHRM became a Dual Member of National SHRM, allowing members to renew annually during their anniversary with National SHRM[3]. As of 2023, RVSHRM celebrated 70 years of serving the HR industry.

Mission and Activities

RVSHRM's mission is to be the recognized regional leader and voice of human resource management, offering quality services to its members. The organization provides various activities for professional development, networking, and continued support of excellence in human resources. Members can earn Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP recertification actions[3]. RVSHRM also requests recertification credits for other HR certifications, such as aPHR, PHR, PHRca, SPHR, aPHRi, PHRi, GPHR, and SPHRi[3].
