PORTLAND FILM FESTIVAL IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO NURTURING FILMMAKERS AND AUDIENCES AND TO CELEBRATING THE POWER OF A GOOD STORY. THE FESTIVAL FOCUSES ON THE PEOPLE, IDEAS, TECHNOLOGY, SKILLS AND ARTISTRY BEHIND FILMMAKING AND PROVIDES BOTH ENTERTAINING AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO THE PUBLIC AND FILMMAKERS.

The Portland Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Portland, Oregon. Founded in 2013 by Joshua Leake and Jay Cornelius, the festival is recognized for its commitment to supporting independent filmmakers and nurturing audiences through diverse cinematic experiences. It has gained acclaim for its blend of entertainment and educational opportunities in the film industry, contributing significantly to Portland's cultural landscape.

Mission

The mission of the Portland Film Festival is to support independent voices in filmmaking while celebrating the art of storytelling. History

Although the festival was officially launched in 2013, its roots trace back to 2009 with the establishment of the Portland Film Club, a Meetup group designed for film enthusiasts to gather and discuss films. The club has since grown to include over 2,300 members.

The inaugural Portland Film Festival was held from August 27 to September 1, 2013, featuring 83 films and attracting significant community involvement with over 148 volunteers. The festival has since expanded its programming, screening more films and hosting a wider array of filmmaking events.

Recognition

The Portland Film Festival has been lauded as one of the "coolest film festivals in the world" by MovieMaker Magazine in 2014 and has consistently been named one of the "50 film festivals worth the entry fee" in subsequent years, including 2020.

In addition to the main festival, the organization hosts various programs throughout the year, including:
