Monday, March 31 is Cesar Chavez Day. Chavez was born in Arizona in 1927. During the Great Depression, he moved with his parents to California to become migrant farm workers. After years in the fields and then years as a community organizer, he co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which eventually became the United Farm Workers labor union. As a civil rights activist and labor leader, Chavez worked to improve working conditions, raise pay and affirm the dignity of agricultural workers. InterCare provides medical and dental care, as well as counseling, referrals and transportation assistance to thousands of farmworkers every year.
