The Helix School is located in San Rafael, CA, serving students ages 5-22 with mild to moderate autism spectrum disorder. Through individualized, relationship-based, multidisciplinary education, Helix's mission is to provide an environment for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, that fosters in-depth learning and a strong sense of trust in one's body, the world, and in people. All teaching strategies emphasize relationship-based, motivation-based, kinesthetic and sensory-based learning. Following the child's lead, taking advantage of natural opportunities, and incorporating meaningful play-based activities, provide a base for learning. Teachers keep in mind the importance of fostering self-monitoring and executive functioning strategies to improve independence.
