The National Wild Turkey Federation Inc. (NWTF) is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage. The NWTF was founded by Tom Rodgers, who was motivated by concerns over habitat loss and the need for more scientific understanding of wild turkeys. The organization began with a modest base and gradually expanded its impact. Over the years, the NWTF has played a significant role in restoring wild turkey populations. In the early 1970s, there were approximately 1.3 million wild turkeys in North America; by the time of the organization's 50th anniversary, this number had grown to over 7 million[1][5].
