Connecting public charter school families to Alabama policymakers Public Charter Schools in Alabama In 2015 the Alabama Legislature passed the SchoolChoiceand Student Opportunity Act enabling public charter schools in Alabama. There are currently 17 public charter schoolsin Alabama serving approximately 8000 students. These 17 schools are located in 8 counties across 10 cities. The goal of Alabama Families for Great Schools is to connect those 8000 families with state and local policymakers to ensure that decisionmakers understand the needs of Alabama public charter schools.
