TIRF's mission to reduce deaths and injuries resulting from road crashes is achieved by designing,implementing, evaluating and promoting evidence-based strategies.There are several core elements that are part of TIRF's vision. These include the following: To increase understanding of road users. More than 80 percent of road crashes arecaused by human error or condition. Through its research TIRF is improving understandingabout why drivers behave as they do in order to intervene more effectively and help themdevelop safe driving behaviors. To develop, implement and evaluate relevant, effective measures. Programs andpolicies aimed at improving road safety must address the underlying causes of road crashes.TIRF's research is the foundation for evidence-based programs and policies, and soundlegislation targeting young drivers, commercial drivers, vulnerable road users, impairment,fatigue, distraction and other road safety concerns.
