Texas Music Project Inc
For 20 years, Texas Music Project has been dedicated to bringing the transformative power of music We created TMP to help address the lack of funding for the arts in general and specifically music education in our schools and communities. We believe music has the transformative power to connect, inspire and heal. For this reason we create educational, instructional, and informational programs for underprivileged groups. We inspire people to follow their dreams through music. In 2022, Our Music Heals program donated musical instruments to Dell Childrens in Austin, San Antonio Childrens, Childrens Medical in Dallas, Hermman Memorial in Houston, Texas Children's in Houston, and Cooks Children's in Ft Worth.

Texas Music Project Inc.
Overview
Texas Music Project Inc. (TMP) is a nonprofit organization established in 2003, dedicated to supporting music education and fostering the musical talents of underprivileged and at-risk youth across Texas. Recognized for its significant contributions to the state's musical heritage, TMP has been a catalyst for positive change in music education, especially in schools and hospitals.
Mission and Vision
TMP's mission is to promote the positive effects of music and music education, particularly among disadvantaged youth. The organization aims to inspire young individuals to follow their dreams through music, ensuring that the benefits of musical education are accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic background.
Programs and Initiatives
Over its two decades of operation, TMP has initiated several impactful programs, including:
-
Music Therapy Program: Launched in 2012, this program provides musical experiences for children in hospitals and those affected by the loss of parents in military service. The program emphasizes music's healing power, fostering emotional expression and peer communication.
-
Classroom to Stage Mentorship: This initiative connects young musicians with opportunities to perform in prestigious venues and festivals, allowing them to gain real-world experience in the music industry.
-
Music Heals Initiative: This program focuses on supplying instruments and performances to children's hospitals across Texas. Recent endeavors included fulfilling a request from music therapists to provide new instruments, significantly enhancing the music programs of several hospitals.
-
Compilation CDs: TMP has produced four compilation CDs titled "Don't Mess with Texas Music," featuring over 80 Texas artists, including notable names like Willie Nelson and Beyoncé. Proceeds from these CDs have been used to fund various educational and outreach initiatives.
Funding and Recognition
The organization primarily relies on contributions to support its operations, with revenues largely generated through donations and partnerships. In recent fiscal years, TMP reported an income of approximately $92,700 in 2023, although expenses exceeded revenues, highlighting ongoing financial challenges in sustaining and expanding its programs.
TMP has received recognition for its contributions to the arts and music education, including a "Trail Blazer" award from the Texas Commission on the Arts, and its efforts have been acknowledged in legislative contexts, such as a House Bill signed by Governor Perry.
Community Engagement
TMP actively encourages community involvement, inviting individuals and businesses to participate in its mission through volunteering, fundraising, and sponsoring events. The organization aims to create a collaborative network of supporters who share a passion for music and its educational value.
Conclusion
As Texas Music Project Inc. approaches its 20th anniversary, it remains committed to its vision of enriching the lives of children through music. With ongoing efforts to enhance music education in Texas, TMP continues to make a significant impact on the state's cultural landscape, nurturing the next generation of musicians and music lovers.
