We didn’t plan to take in another dog. Our kennels are completely full and we are already stretched thin. When a woman showed up asking for help with a dog she found, we had to say no at first. Before turning her away, we scanned the dog for a microchip hoping we could reunite her with her owner. She had a chip, but when we contacted the owner, we were completely ignored. No one ever responded. The woman stayed outside our rescue for hours. She had no idea what to do. She couldn’t take the dog into her home, but she also couldn’t leave her behind. That kind of compassion is rare. When we saw she was still sitting there hours later, still waiting and hoping for help, we decided to step in. We named the dog Hannah. Once we brought her inside, we realized how bad things really were. Hannah has a severe skin infection with inflamed, irritated patches all over her body. She has a urinary tract infection so painful that she is peeing blood. And both of her ears are filled with pus from infections that were left untreated for far too long. Despite all the pain she’s in, Hannah is sweet and gentle. We have started her on antibiotics, allergy medication, and pain relief. She has a long road ahead, but we are doing everything we can to help her heal. We don’t know how long she was wandering the streets looking for help.
