In a twelve-hour span, Brody went from playing cornhole and swimming to being life-flighted to the CICU at Children’s because his heart was failing. Within hours, he was placed on ECMO—the highest level of life support—with his heart functioning at less than 10% due to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. After two long months in our hospital undergoing physical, speech and occupational therapy, Brody’s family received the call: a new heart was ready for him.

This homecoming queen did not let her cancer dull her sparkle. Aubrey noticed a lump on her neck at the beginning of her senior year. As it grew in size and started to cause more discomfort, she was referred to our Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center where our doctors diagnosed her with Burkitt lymphoma, an aggressive and fast-growing cancer.
