UNION CITY FERAL CAT COMMITTEE

Follow Message Edit

We place more cats in homes 172 in 2024, 500 from 2020-2023, in spite of covid, spend more on vet care and cat food (more than $450,000), and feed more colonies (more than 70 each night, colonies, not cats) than any other Hudson County cat rescue group. The mission of our group is caring for the homeless cats (feral and adoptable) of Union City, NJ and adjacent towns through TNRs, vaccination, veterinary care, and adoptions. We care for the homeless cats as much as we care about our families. In doing this, we will always have zero administrative fees (all funds are used to help the cats), 24/7 open records (all our income, expenses, and receipts are available 24/7 to everybody at www.tinyurl.com/ucfccincomeandexpenses and at www.tinyurl.com/ucfccreceipts), and none of our volunteers has ever been paid or will ever be paid for anything. Simple: Absolutely 100% of donations are used to help the homeless cats.

Union City Feral Cat Committee

The Union City Feral Cat Committee (UCFCC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to caring for homeless cats—both feral and adoptable—in Union City, New Jersey, and adjacent towns. Founded in 2012 (although it was established under its current form in 2014), the organization is driven by a mission to manage the local cat population through a process known as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), along with vaccinations, veterinary care, and adoption placement.

Mission and Activities

The UCFCC focuses on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), which involves capturing stray cats, spaying or neutering them, and then releasing them back into their colonies to prevent the birth of more kittens. This method is crucial for controlling the population of feral cats. Additionally, the organization provides vaccinations and necessary veterinary care to ensure the health and well-being of these animals. For adoptable cats, they facilitate adoptions, finding loving homes for as many cats as possible.

Achievements and Impact

In recent years, the UCFCC has made significant contributions to animal welfare in Hudson County. Notably, they have successfully placed over 500 cats in homes between 2020 and 2023, with 168 adoptions in 2023 alone. The organization also supports the feeding of more than 70 feral cat colonies every night, making it one of the most active groups in the region. Furthermore, they have invested heavily in veterinary care, demonstrating their commitment to the health and well-being of the cats under their care.

Principles

A key principle of the UCFCC is transparency and efficiency in the use of resources. The organization ensures that 100% of donations are used directly to support the care of homeless cats, with no administrative fees or payments to volunteers. Moreover, their financial records are open and accessible to the public, reflecting their commitment to transparency.

Partnerships

To achieve its goals, the UCFCC collaborates with local entities, such as PetSmart in North Bergen, to foster and find homes for pregnant females, kittens, and other friendly cats. These partnerships enable them to extend their reach and support network for cats in need.
