Earlier this month our Shared Supportive Housing Program hosted our annual Community Event. It’s a time when the staff, residents, and volunteers all come together, not to serve or be served, but simply to be, to laugh, to share stories, to enjoy good food, and to remember the joy that comes from being part of something bigger than ourselves. This year’s theme, ‘Flavors of the World,’ celebrated the beauty in their diversity, different cultures, backgrounds, and stories, all coming together with one purpose: to support our residents and one another. It was a joyful reminder that community is their greatest strength. Last week IW Director of Homeless Services Liz Krueger and Deputy Director of Emergency Shelters N’Jeri Henry were recognized by the Montgomery County Executive Office, the Montgomery County Council, and the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce! Congratulations to both of these outstanding leaders for their work in the greater Silver Spring area and helping our neighbors at Progress Place.
