Incubating new collaborations for Arts in Public Places: what can we do together that we can't do separately? We are a non-profit arts organization aiming to incubate collaborations between artists and communities in order to facilitate public arts in Boston. BostonAPP/Lab seeks to incubate new, and strengthen existing, collaborations to support an inclusive vision for, and practice of, art in Greater Boston's public places. These collaborations are envisioned as taking place within and across public, private, and non-profit sectors, and at a variety of scales. Critical to this mission is the interrelationship between art in public places, on the one hand, and civic engagement and building community on the other. The heart of our practice is constantly driven, implicitly or explicitly, by the following set of questions: "Who is the public? What is the art? What do we have? What do we need? How are we going to get it? And who comprises 'we'?" The latter may be the most significant challenge in this series.
