Latin Americans Working for Achievement (LAWA), formerly known as the Latin American Women's Association, is a nonprofit organization based in the Charlotte region. It has been serving the local Latino community since 1992 with the mission of advancing the education and quality of life of Latinos through scholarships, academic, and cultural programs.

Mission and Objectives

LAWA aims to improve the education and quality of life of Latinos in the Charlotte region. Its goals include closing academic achievement gaps, increasing the number of students pursuing and completing post-secondary education, and preparing a self-sufficient and bilingual workforce. The organization provides essential support to first-generation college students, offering academic, social, and mental health resources to ensure their success.

The executive director's compensation was $56,604 in the same year. Governance and Leadership

LAWA is led by a board of directors composed of professionals from various fields, including education, legal services, and corporate sectors. Past members have included representatives from Duke Energy, CMS, and Wingate University.
