VIRGINIA, January 21, 2023 – On Jan 18, 2023 UCAM President, José Luis Mendoza, rested in the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of accomplishments and more importantly many impacted lives. UCAM, Agora University’s partner, has decreed 3 days of mourning, during which all academic activity has been suspended. Shortly after being commissioned with his family to serve communities under extreme poverty in the Dominican Republic, Mr. Mendoza established UCAM in 1996. The Government of Spain distinguished him with the Alfonso X El Sabio Civil Order for his merits in the field of Higher Education. NATO awarded him with the Serge Lazareff Award. Mr. Mendoza, husband of Maria Dolores Garcia Mascarell, is the father of 14 children. In memory of his steady faith, we leave you with these verses from the Book of Wisdom which he quoted in his speeches at the beginning of the academic year: God of fathers and Lord of mercy... Give me the wisdom that attends your throne and do not exclude me from the number of your servants, because I am your servant, the son of your servant, a weak man and of few years, too small to know the judgment and laws. Send her from your holy heavens, and send her from your throne of glory, so that she assists me in my work and I come to know what is pleasing to you. Because she knows and understands all things, and will prudently guide me in my works, and will keep me in her splendor.” (Wisdom 9) Mr. Mendoza’s life has left an everlasting imprint and an image worthy to be mirrored.
