Royersford Fire Department

Overview

The Royersford Fire Department is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing volunteer fire suppression and emergency services to the Borough of Royersford and surrounding communities in Pennsylvania. It operates as a unified body following the consolidation of two older fire companies, the Humane Fire Company (station 84) and the Friendship Hook, Ladder and Hose Company (station 85).

History

The consolidation process began with the formation of an inaugural Steering Committee tasked with integrating operational, administrative, and financial aspects of both organizations. This committee addressed key operational elements like apparatus location and response procedures to ensure seamless coordination between the two stations. On February 1, 2011, the operational aspects were consolidated under a new unified command structure led by the department’s first Fire Chief, Gary Wezel, and station numbers 84 and 85 were retired in favor of the new Royersford Fire Department designation, station 98. The administrative and financial integration took several more months, culminating in the formal incorporation of the Royersford Fire Department on July 11, 2011.

Structure

Following the consolidation, what was once the Friendship Hook, Ladder and Hose Company #2 was repurposed as a social club, supporting the department. Additionally, the Friendship Ambulance remains an integral part of the organization, providing emergency medical services.

Infrastructure

The department expanded its infrastructure by initiating plans for a new fire station in 2013. After exploring various options, a site on 3rd Avenue and Walnut Street was chosen for the new station. Groundbreaking took place on April 9, 2016, and the building was completed by January 30, 2017. The new station was officially dedicated on September 16, 2017.

Operations

The Royersford Fire Department operates a fleet of apparatus, including a ladder, engine, rescue, and utility vehicles. It collaborates with neighboring fire departments, such as the Phoenixville Fire Department, to respond to emergencies. The department also emphasizes community outreach and safety initiatives.

Financials

As of 2023, the Royersford Fire Department reported revenues of $603,000, expenses of $792,000, total assets of approximately $4.7 million, and total liabilities of $1.67 million[3].

Mission and Community Engagement

The department is committed to serving its community through emergency services, educational programs, and community events. It fosters a sense of community involvement and outreach, providing resources and support to local residents.
